Perfect Agate Stripping Guides of Europe
The Scott Fly Rod Company, founded in 1973 by Harry Wilson in a San Francisco basement, began as a dream of building a better fly rod. An accomplished engineer and angler, Wilson left his executive job to pursue his passion.
Incorporated in 1974 and named after his son, Scott, the company quickly gained fame for its fiberglass fly rods. Innovations like the first five-piece rods for backpacking anglers caught the attention of serious fishermen.
In the early 70s, graphite became available, and Scott led the charge, designing the first high-performance long rods for light lines. In 1975, he introduced a 9-foot rod for a 4-line, revolutionizing fly rod design.
In 1975, Harry hired Larry Kenney, who helped grow the company from its basement roots to a global rod company. With business booming, Kenney became a partner, and Scott moved to a new location across the Bay to expand.
In 1993, under new ownership, Scott moved operations from Berkeley to Telluride, Colorado. A new facility was built in Montrose, Colorado, where we operate today.
While our workforce has grown, our traditions of innovation and handcrafting remain strong.
