The Nikko Classic is a timeless piece, with limited options like gold spool and silver foot. While these options add a touch of style, they’re more for aesthetics as were popular classic reels of the past.
The Small Trout Nikko is a 2 3/4” frame, 13/16” spool, and weighs about 4.4oz. It goes great on a 1, 2, or 3-weight fly rod, whether it’s fiberglass, graphite, or bamboo. This unique and classic combination on a small street nestled deep within the Smokies, Rocky Mountains, or prairie land undoubtedly assaults the human senses.
The Small Trout Nikko Wide is like its smaller brother, but with a few differences. Its spool is wider, measuring 31/32 inches, and it’s a tiny bit heavier, about 0.03 ounces, if you can notice. This reel is a perfect match for the 3 and 4-weight rods that catch the same streams as the Small Trout Nikko, but it’s got a bit more backbone for smallmouth streams and some smaller tailwaters.
The Trout is a sturdy classic reel with a 3 1/4” frame, a 13/16” spool, and weighs 5.57 ounces. It’s ideal for taming larger trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and other formidable fish. This classic reel would be an excellent match for the Kabuto, Scott, and Thomas & Thomas 5-weights. It can also accommodate a 6-weight fly rod, if desired.
The Nikko Large Trout, Small Steelhead is meticulously engineered exclusively for large fish. This reel, perhaps a product of the demand for a high-quality, engineered classic reel, boasts a frame of 3 1/4 inches, a spool of 31/32 inches, and weighs 5.64 ounces. The Nikko Large Trout, Small Steelhead is well-suited for both single-handed and double-handed flyrods. It pairs excellently with a 6, 7, or 8-weight rod for single-handed fishing, or a 3 or 4-weight fly rod for double-handed fishing, when targeting these prized fish species.
The drag system of the Nikko Classic Reels is meticulously engineered to function with unwavering and absolute purpose. Crafted meticulously for service and durability, all Nikko Classic Reels produce a delightful, harmonious chime when activated. Such a captivating and refined sound could potentially hinder the angler’s performance, captivating the attention of the individual and diverting it from the intended task. However, it is worth noting that the chorus of such music consists of the softly whispered words “Fish On!” or, in some cases, the loud and disruptive cry of “FISH ON!” echoing up and down streams.
