Lemon Twist Mint Julep - A Safe Bet for Derby Day and Beyond!
It’s the first Saturday in May… The stakes are high, the horses are primed, and the bourbon is flowing. What else could I be referring to other than the riveting race of the Kentucky Derby! In its history of 151 years running, patrons from all over the world embark on the tradition of high fashion and betting hopefuls at Churchill Downs Racetrack.
Large hats, vibrant colors, and race day programs are on display, but one notable accessory is missing—a Mint Julep. It’s a unique rite of passage to the Kentucky Derby, and you can’t truly experience the event without one. The Mint Julep and the Derby are inseparable.
Fortunately, for those who do not plan on attending a Derby in person, you don’t have to miss out on enjoying this refreshing cocktail! There are several mint julep variations/recipes that you can make in the comfort of your very own home. The recipe below is my favorite way to indulge in a mint julep and puts a slightly sour twist on a very sweet tradition.
