Going on now for more than 30 years, residents and nonresidents alike are invited to participate June 6th-8th to celebrate “Free Fishing Weekend” in Arkansas. Although the common waterways and property rules still apply to all participants, anglers are able to fish anywhere in the state without having to purchase a fishing license or a trout permit. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of for fishing enthusiasts, as well as beginners!

If finding the perfect waterhole seems a bit daunting to you, there are several fish hatcheries within the state that are hosting “fishing derbies” this weekend as part of the commemoration event. All ages are welcome and this, too, is a free event for fishermen of all levels. Staff will be present to assist and guide you in your experience to make for a memorable time! Participants will not only get a chance to catch some fish, but can learn about Arkansas’s conservation efforts to breed and protect species that are native to our state. This is a great, interactive way to get young children involved!
